Bundle of 12 '2 Letters to Start With' Games
“2 Letters to Start With” is a dynamic and engaging ESL activity designed to enhance vocabulary and spelling. Perfect for both group and individual play, this versatile resource is ideal for classrooms or tutoring sessions. The game becomes more exciting as students progress to higher proficiency levels since their vocabulary is more extensive.
Starting letters it includes:
DE, EA, SH, TE, CO, NO, PA, PH, AC, CA, DI, ST
How It Works:
Starting Letters: Each round begins with two provided letters. Participants (individuals or groups) take turns saying words that begin with these letters.
Scoring System: Points are awarded based on the complexity of the words (A2 = 1 point, B1 = 2 points, B2 = 3 points, C1 = 4 points and C2 = 5 points) or they can be based on word length as well. This strategic element adds excitement, especially for higher-level students, as they vie for the highest scores.
Definition Challenge: If students exhaust their words, the teacher provides a definition of a word related to the starting letters from the sheet. Students must guess the word.
Game Framework: The activity can be structured as a competitive game with multiple rounds, allowing students to accumulate points. The challenge intensifies with each round, particularly for higher-level learners, making the game even more enjoyable. You can also incorporate various pairs of starting letters within a single session to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging.
Adjustable: This material is versatile and can easily be integrated into your own game framework (such as Guns, Bombs, Angels, Blockbusters, The Longest Path, etc.). Feel free to customize it to your teaching style by allowing students to risk some of their points, implementing rotating spokespersons within groups, rolling a die to determine the category of the definition they’ll receive, enabling point-stealing between groups, and deciding whether questions are open to just one group or all.
Benefits:
Vocabulary Building: Students expand their vocabulary by creatively thinking of words that start with specific letters.
Critical Thinking: The definition guessing element encourages deeper comprehension and engagement with language.
Higher-Level Excitement: As students reach higher proficiency levels, the game becomes more fun and challenging, fostering a spirited atmosphere in the classroom.
Flexible Gameplay: This resource can be adapted for different proficiency levels and classroom settings, making it suitable for all learners.
Bundle
Bundle of 15 3-in-a-line games (15 games for A2-B1 +15 games for B2-C1)
When you only have a little bit of time for a game (couple minutes), playing this modified 3-IN-A-LINE game is the perfect solution.
What’s included:
15 A2-B1 level game sheets
15 B2-C1 level game sheets
topics for both levels: home, education, environment, hobbies, clothes, travel, family, shopping, technology and feelings, food, media, health, money and science
How to play:
You can either project the empty grid included or simply draw a 3x3 grid on the board. Mark the columns as A, B, C, and the rows as 1, 2, 3. Form two groups and decide who will be X (cross) and who will be O (nought). The first group should pick a spot on the grid (e.g., B2). They can win that spot and place their mark if they answer the question for that spot correctly. If they don’t know the right answer, the other group has the chance to respond and can win the spot. If no one answers correctly, it remains empty. The goal, as in every 3-IN-A-LINE game, is to get three of your marks in a line.
If you want tyou can give them a second chance for the empty spot:
-for the A2-B1 level, you can provide a hint for the same question.
-for the higher level, you can either give a hint or use the question from the lower level as a substitute.
This game is useful for topic-based classes to strengthen students’ vocabulary or just use it as a random fun activity.

Bingo is a fun warm-up activity for any class.
Every bingo sheet includes 4 identical bingo cards on one page, so you need a pair of scissors to cut it up. Students mark every statement that is true about themselves. If someone has four in a line (horizontally, vertically, or maybe even diagonally), they shout bingo. Wait until most of the students have a bingo. Then ask a couple of them to read which statements got them a bingo and encourage them to discuss them.
It includes a one-page-version as well, if you want to project it or use it online.
Of course, you can play Bingo in many different ways. In another version, students have to transform the statements into questions, then they work in pairs and mark their partner’s answers. Or the whole class can get up and walk around and find someone who agrees with the statement for each one of them.
